Kampar’s Participation at the Malaysian National Local Council Environmental Health Conference, 24th - 25th September 2012

Mr. Nor Akmal b. Yang Ghazali from Kampar was recently invited to speak at the National Local Council Environmental Health Conference 2012 which was organised by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government and held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from the 24th – 25th September 2012 with around 250 participants from 156 local authorities from all over Malaysia.  This is an annual conference which was inaugurated in 2008.

Mr. Ghazali’s presentation was titled "KitaQ Composting System in Kampar District Council" (posted in our documents page) and covered the details of the KitaQ System Composting as well as its history and practice within Kampar.  The local action plan and experiences gained from the July Seminar in Japan were shared and hopes for the future discussed.  Mr. Ghazali also explained how being part of a network can help expedite the creation of plans and assist with successful implementation as well as observing that such initiatives are well supported at the international level.  The presentation was followed by a 15 minute Q&A session.

The response from the audience was extremely positive and participants expressed a strong interest in travelling to Kampar to see the implementation of the system thus far.  During the conference Hang Tuah Jaya also opened a display about KitaQ System Composting to provide more information.  This has enabled Kampar to meet the aim in its action plan of formally sharing knowledge and experience with other local authorities.
